Nicole Havelka passionately believes the renewal of the church will come from helping the Sunday morning experience live 24/7. For five years, she has served the wider church doing training, coach- ing and leadership development in the United Church of Christ, first in the Iowa Conference UCC and now in Michigan. She previously served at Chicago Theological Seminary in a Lilly-grant funded pro- gram to help high school youth discern their sense of God’s call to vocation. She is also one of the only people to have served a congregation of children and teenagers when she worked as a chaplain at a treatment facility for young people with mental illness and behavioral disorders. Her background in journalism and theater and experience as a yoga student and teacher give her additional creative resources as she develops worship that honors, but also innovates, traditional liturgies. Nicole en- courages you to connect with her by “Liking” her Facebook page and following her on Twitter (@revnhavelka) and Pinterest where she posts ideas, resources and articles about church transformation. You can also read her thoughts on her blog, www.prayitforward247.com.
When she’s not in church, Nicole can be found doing yoga, cooking for friends or swimming, biking and running. Nicole recently completed her first Olympic-distance triathlon and is eager to try another one!
Specialty: Certification School
A Diaconal Minister is called to walk with one foot in the sacred world and the other in the secular world, constantly building bridges to connect these communities. The foundation of the bridge is the light of Christ. Erin Morris lives out this calling by working with youth who are already straddling those two worlds in their daily lives.
The basis of her identity was formed in a small country church in southern Ohio, and God’s call has taken her to large suburban churches in Ohio, Colorado and Minnesota. Erin received her undergraduate degree from Berea College in Kentucky and her master’s degree from Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. Her passion and what keeps her in ministry is her desire that every Christian, young and old, live a life that reflects Christ’s light to others. Erin currently serves as team lead for Youth and Family Ministry at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi, Minnesota.
Over the past 25 years, Debbie has facilitated, overseen, organized, and developed faith formation programs from infants through adults in the congregational setting. As a volunteer, she serves as president for LACE (Lutheran Association of Christian Educators), a national support network for resources in congregations.
She has worked intricately with Faith Inkubators resources and has consulted and led events across the United States and in Australia for congregations focusing on the importance of establishing faith practices in the congregation and in the home.
Her background is in language. Coupled with her passion for family ministry, she uses her knowledge and experience learned from teaching languages as a tool to implement systems for teaching about immersion in the language of faith. Her vision is to involve all ages in faith formation, strengthen family relationships through Spiritual growth, and empower God-given gifts to do ministry.
Debbie has lived in many places across the country, in Spain, and in Japan thanks to her husband’s career in the Navy. She and her husband, Burt, have three sons, a daughter-in-law, and two grandsons.
